My Brother The Devil
The teen film that I have chosen is 'My Brother The Devil' which is a teen film
about two teenage brothers who are linked to the streets of
London, as they are part of the gang-life and are also linked with drug dealing and life on the streets. James Floyd plays Rashid, whose hard-working parents came to the UK from
Egypt. Growing up on the streets he started to get involved with drug-dealing and gang culture. His brother, Mo who is played by Fady Elsayed takes his footsteps and path. Rashid encounters his sexual feelings and that he is homosexual, which is not accepted by his friends and family. This later on leads to his friends betraying him and wanting to kill him and his family.
The are many different conventions that are portrayed in this film which add up to categorise the film to be a teen film. There are a number of themes that are explored in this film and some of them are violence, romance, drugs, crime, sexuallity, teenage life and any more.
The Genres of this film would most likely be crime, thriller, romance, hints of comedy and drugs. There are other examples of this film that have the same genres such as Kidulthood, Adulthood and Anuvahood.
Overall this film is an excellent example of a teen film that is British, and the teens of Britain can relate to this film and they would also agree that this film by far is one of the best teen films that have been released recently.
