A teen genre film is targeted at a teenage audience or young adults. Normally, the plot will follow a everyday life of a teenager or the plot might follow something that will interest young adults and teenagers. The teenage films are normally aimed at teenagers who are in the age bracket of 13-19, but people above 19 can also watch the movie. Its mainly for teenagers between 13-19 because it strongly relates to them and things that they might go through or have gone through will be portrayed within the film.

The main sub-genres of teen movies are: Love, comedy, sci-fi, romantic comedy, love story, fantasy, horror, romantic comedy, teen drama. E.g: American Pie has the sub genres: Love, Romantic Comedy, Teen Drama, and Love.
